Members of the Sustainable Branding Collaborative
Rich Bruer
If there’s one thing Rich Bruer has learned over the years in branding, it’s this: Making a promise is not the same as keeping it. A sustainable brand is not just a promise; it’s a promise kept. Rich formed the Sustainable Branding Collaborative to help
businesses define a distinct, relevant brand — and then live it. The Collaborative extends the support his firm provides to businesses and organizations whose programs, products and services contribute to a sustainable future — environmentally, socially and economically.
Previously, Rich co-founded McClenahan Bruer Communications, a high tech marketing communications agency in Portland, Ore. He and Kerry McClenahan built the firm into one of the leading tech agencies on the West Coast. Rich sold to Kerry in 2006 to take his work into sustainability. He is current board chair of the Northwest Earth Institute and recent past chair of the Sustainable Business Network of Portland. He holds an M.S. in journalism from the University of Oregon. He’s always looking forward to his next cross-country bicycle trip.

Michael Midghall
The original objective for Michael Midghall’s eight-year old Fusion MR was simple – use the best market research techniques to help clients design new products that fuse with target markets. A foray into depth interviews, observation and
online surveys (including conjoint analysis) resulted in a series of concept test, market sizing and product/service optimization projects. In 2005 the firm began targeting more eco-sustainable solutions, and in 2009 the scope was expanded to assessing brand values by measuring brand equity. These new capabilities, combined with stakeholder input, can provide clients with a complete picture of the market impacts resulting from potential and realized sustainability actions. Aided by these insights, clients create a clear link between sustainability progress and financial performance improvement.
Michael holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts and an MBA with marketing and new venture analysis concentration from the University of Tennessee. In his free time, he can be found on the mountain snowboarding, at the beach surfing or on the links golfing.
